New blog

Posted on March 13th, 2009 by by carmine

Mona and I started a new blog, The Daily Froth, as a way to discuss various aspects of our professional life. We’ll be discussing things related to our work and other professional related topics. Look for posts about HR, Employment, Technology, Gadgets, Policies and some stuff that crosses these topics.

I’ll probably be changing Carmine & Mona to a static site, but Maddy & Zoe will stay a blog. ;-)

AT&T can’t take no for an answer.

Apparently, when I had signed up for Uverse back in November, and quickly canceled when they told me I couldn’t get at least 2 HD streams, they thought I was kidding. AT&T never canceled the order even though I told them to, and they put through a change request to Comcast for my phone line. This caused Comcast to think my phone service was being canceled from them, and thus, they dropped my triple play package deal, and I lost all my digital channels. After 3 separate calls to Comcast, I was able to get a tech to figure out what was going on.

Needless to say, I called up AT&T this morning and let them have it for doing this to me. I’ll probably file a slamming complaint with the DPUC for AT&T switching without my permission. More of a reason for those of you considering a switch to stay clear of Uverse. AT&T is a communication company that can’t even communicate properly with itself.

AT&T Uverse can’t suck enough

Posted on December 22nd, 2008 by by carmine

Wow. So, after my debacle with trying to figure out if Uverse was worth it, I get a call today from an AT&T tech asking if I was ready for the install. WHAT?! I canceled this order about a month ago! Apparently, AT&T never communicated to the tech that I canceled (or maybe the customer rep just never canceled the order).

It’s pretty funny that a communication company can’t communicate internally with one another. Good job AT&T! What a bunch of idiots.

Uverse is an EPIC FAILURE

I didn’t want this to happen, but it did. When I contacted AT&T to order Uverse, I told the customer service representative to make sure I could get at least 2 HD streams to my house. As I said before, I was pleasantly surprised with how knowledgeable and polite the customer service rep was with me. Anyway, the rep told me he would get back to me about the streams. Today, he called me back and told me that I could only get 1 HD stream at my house do to my distance from the VRAD. Ugh. I told him that was a deal-breaker, and canceled my order. Oh well… I was looking forward to dumping Comcast for something with a much better HD Lineup. But since, I couldn’t even begin to fathom how I could get 1 HD stream to work in my house, I had no choice but to cancel.

So what I don’t get is how AT&T could think that providing their customers and potential customers with limitations to HD streams is a good idea considering something like 40% of households in the US now have at least one HDTV. I’m sure it’s even higher in Connecticut households. Even with one HD TV, having one HD stream is useless because you can’t watch an HD channel while you are recording one. What geniuses decided that having this poor infrastructure for growth would be a good idea? Anyway, it sucks that I am in CT… at least those in Verizon serviced states have a much better choice in television service with FiOS. Verizon isn’t screwing around and running fiber directly to people’s houses.

Now on to the decision of sticking with Comcast and hope they start adding more content and channels soon, or moving on to DirectTV.
